Remember last winter’s factory tour of Cisco Home in Los Angeles? Ever since I got a chance to see the magic behind the curtain of this handmade eco-friendly furniture company, I’ve had a serious soft spot for their particular approach to homewares design and construction. So when the warm weather hit and I decided it was time for a lighter, more minimalist look in the living room, I knew exactly who to call! They’d practically had to restrain me from rolling around like a happy piglet in the myriad bolts of ultra soft upholstery fabric at the Cisco workshop—so a linen sofa from Cisco was the obvious choice to replace the black leather midcentury couch I’d been lounging on for the past few years.
When it came time to choose the new sofa, my criteria were pretty clear. I wanted a bench cushion (hate it when it feels like the crevice between the cushions is devouring you!) and also wanted the frame to be relatively narrow and sleek in the arms, legs, and back. Meanwhile, my fiance Ivan had his own requests, including extra length to accommodate multiple lounge lizards at a time and a deep enough seat to sink into for lazy Sunday sports marathons. Even , Cisco’s huge selection meant we had three gorgeous styles to choose from: the Stewart, the Tinsley, and the Radley. Ultimately we went with the latter in a flaxen linen hue because it felt the most stylistically versatile, able to evolve with us as our style changes throughout the years. It can swing coastal, Scandinavian, midcentury, or traditional depending on the pillows and other accessories I pair it with!
When the sofa arrived, it was delivered by the nephews of Cisco Home’s founder—the company is family-owned and operated, and every piece is made by hand here in LA. I swear they were at once excited and a little wistful to leave it behind with us, almost as though a treasured heirloom had found a new forever home. We’ve been working in the sofa for a few months now and our love gets stronger every day. It looks just as good rumpled and lived-in as it does crisp and pristine; it lends itself equally to piles of patterned pillows as to a few of the solid linen ones it came with; and its also won over the houseguests we’ve had this summer since it’s as big as a twin bed when we remove the back cushions. I can’t wait to carry it with us as our family grows and we embark on ever bigger adventures in decorating!
Where is that throw blanket from?? I love it! 🙂
Hi Jennifer! It’s from Target, it’s several years old by now but has held up well!
