When was the last time you were creative? I'll bet it was more recently than you think! We so often view creativity solely as an artistic exercise, assume that we have to pick up a paintbrush or a musical instrument to engage in self-expression. But the truth is, we humans are inherently creative beings; it's an essential aspect of our nature that exhibits itself without our even realizing it. Improvising dinner with end-of-week fridge contents? Navigating conflicting personalities at the office? Planning your child's birthday party? Hello, creativity!
One of the most exhilarating (and scary!) things about creativity is that you never know where it may lead you. Take Vermont-based textile designer Marta Sulocka, founder of Made of Cloth studio. Marta holds a master's degree in sociology but has evolved her longtime passion for sketching and illustration into a collection of soft, sophisticated, and one-of-a-kind linen pillows. Her patterns reflect her love of nature, and each one honors the satisfaction inherent in the creative process.
Of course not every creative endeavor turns into a business! But all of our favorite hobbies and pastimes promise rewards that extend well beyond the financial realm. When we're focused on the process and problem in front of us, there's no room in our brains for worries about the unchangeable past and the unpredictable future. Even better, creativity offers us a chance to share our unique perspective with the world around us. Stress relief, generosity, and the pleasure of a job well done? Reasons enough to reframe every moment of our day as a creative one!
P.S. I absolutely encourage you to explore Made of Cloth! Marta's designs are simple and versatile yet stunning! Images: Made of Cloth Instagram
