The strangest thing happened this morning. Rather than climb from the horizon with its usual energy, the sun stayed in bed beneath a blanket of clouds. Then, 'round about 9 'o' clock, fat drops of water began to plummet from the sky. Here in Southern California its been so long since we had rain, I'd forgotten the phenomenon existed. The arrival of this uncanny weather can only mean one thing: Fall is on its way.
Autumn isn't my favorite season—that honor goes to Spring—but I do find it to be the most visually arresting. The longer days and changing colors make for dramatic light and a bittersweet mood that's unique to this time of year.
