Modern Tea Party: Animal Ceramics by Yvonne Ellen

Do you remember your first tea set? I do. It was miniscule in scale, sized perfectly for dolls' petite porcelain hands, and dotted with tiny pink flowers. Many a posh affair was hosted with that set. Today my taste in vessels runs more towards the Venti capacity, but these hand-illustrated ceramics from British artist Yvonne Ellen have me thinking a return to my formerly civilzed ways is in order.

Yvonne spends her weekends scavenging vintage china at estate sales and flea markets, then embellishes each plate, cup, and saucer by hand—making every piece one-of-a-kind. From furred and feathered friends to the cheeky typography, her drawings have so much personality! So who'll join me, the giraffe, and the puffer fish for some scones and Earl Grey?
